Your first experiment

What kind of game is Jar People?

Jar People is a dystopian life simulation game. You work at JarCorp, inoculating jars with digital DNA and observing the people inside. Research opens up new possibilities, and you can enter your avatar’s world to learn, gather, craft, build, and explore.

How do I begin?

Choose Enter Laboratory from the main menu and follow the in-game introduction. Your first steps guide you through the laboratory and creating life in a jar. Once you have a colony, Continue from Jar returns you to your world.

Which devices is it made for?

Jar People is being prepared for iPhone, iPad, and iPhone Duo. The current app requires iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later. The App Store listing will show final availability and device compatibility when the game is released.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No Jar People account is required. Your simulation and research are saved on your device, and the core game can be played offline. Optional Game Center needs a connection and a Game Center account. Nearby sharing requires access to your local network.

Papers & Game Center

How do I publish a paper?

Observe your Jar People completing different activities. Every three distinct observations produce a research paper. Repeating the same observation of the same person and activity does not produce additional evidence. Published papers unlock more DNA for your laboratory.

What does the leaderboard measure?

The Papers Published leaderboard measures the saved total number of research papers across your laboratory. It keeps your highest submitted total. It does not rank consciousness or the number of people freed.

How do I connect or retry a score?

From the main menu, choose Papers Published · Game Center, then Connect & sync papers. You can also find it in the jar’s More options menu. New papers sync while connected during that play session. If you were offline or signed out, reconnect to retry the saved total.

How do I stop sharing scores?

Open Papers Published · Game Center and choose Stop automatic sharing. That stops future uploads during the play session. It does not erase an existing leaderboard score or sign you out of Apple’s Game Center. See Apple’s Game Center privacy information for account and visibility choices.

Your world stays with you

Where is my progress saved?

Worlds, discoveries, papers, and settings are saved locally on your device. Game Center is a leaderboard, not a cloud backup of your laboratory. Don’t delete the app to troubleshoot a problem you want us to investigate: deleting it can remove your local progress.

How does nearby sharing work?

Nearby sharing is optional and starts when you choose to share a jar. Both players must accept before a jar edition is transferred. Your device may ask for local-network permission. There is no public feed, and the website does not store shared jars.

Can I delete my saved data?

Deleting Jar People from your device removes the app’s local save data. Offloading the app may keep its data. Device backups and copies already shared with another player are separate, and deleting the app does not remove an existing Game Center score. Contact us if you need help understanding what will be removed before you act.

If something isn’t behaving

  1. Close and reopen the game, and check whether an app update is available.
  2. For Game Center, check that you’re signed in and online, then reconnect from Papers Published.
  3. For nearby sharing, check local-network permission and confirm that both players accept the connection.
  4. If the problem continues, email us with the steps that led to it.
