Your information, beyond the glass

Privacy policy

Jar People is a game about observing tiny worlds. This page explains what happens to your real information.

Who we are

Hermetic Ventures LLC provides Jar People and this website. For privacy questions or requests, contact jason@hermeticventures.com.

The core game saves your laboratory on your device. There is no Jar People account, advertising, or third-party analytics in this release. Game Center and nearby sharing are optional. If you email us, we receive the information you choose to include.

This policy covers the current Jar People app and its informational website. Apple services, your email service, and websites you choose to visit have their own privacy practices.

What stays on your device

The game stores your laboratory, Jar People, scientist name, observations, research papers, progress, and settings locally so you can continue playing. You can use a fictional scientist name. We do not receive a copy of your laboratory through normal single-player play.

The app’s local analytics facility is disabled by default in this release and has no remote analytics endpoint. The app does not include advertising trackers or a third-party analytics SDK. Local game data remains until you delete it or remove the app; your device’s backup settings may also preserve a copy.

Optional Game Center

When you choose Connect & sync papers, the app authenticates through Apple’s Game Center and sends your published-paper count to Apple for the Papers Published leaderboard. New papers can sync while connected during that play session. The app does not send your laboratory or research paper text with that score, and we do not copy Game Center identities or scores to our own server.

Apple associates the score with your Game Center account. Your Game Center nickname, avatar, and score may be visible to other Game Center users. Apple manages that information under its Game Center privacy notice.

You can play without connecting. Stop automatic sharing ends future score uploads during the session. It does not delete previously shared scores or sign you out of your Apple account. Manage Game Center account and privacy choices through Apple’s controls; contact us if you need help with a score associated with Jar People.

Sharing a jar nearby

If you start nearby sharing, the app uses Apple’s local-network services to find and connect to another player. The devices exchange the selected jar edition only after acceptance. A shared edition includes in-game people, names, and world state needed for the receiving player to use it.

A recipient may retain the copy you share. Choose in-game names accordingly and avoid including information you would not want the recipient to see. We do not receive these transfers on a developer-operated sharing server. You can stop nearby sharing or revoke local-network permission in your device settings.

Visiting this website

This is an informational website. It does not create accounts, set tracking cookies, run third-party analytics, or collect information through a web form. The images, fonts, and trailer are served directly by the site, rather than by an embedded advertising or video platform.

Your browser sends technical request information, such as your IP address and requested page, so the site can be delivered. The website application does not store an access log or visitor database. Hosting and network services may process technical request data to deliver and protect the site. We do not use it for advertising profiles.

Following an external link, including a mail link or a link to Apple, takes you to a separate service whose privacy practices apply.

When you ask for help

If you email us, we receive your email address, the name supplied by your email service, your message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use this information to answer your request, investigate problems, and provide support. Our email service processes the correspondence to deliver and store it.

Please share only what is needed to explain the issue. Do not send passwords, payment card details, or other sensitive information. Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to handle the request and reasonable follow-up, or to meet legal obligations. You may ask us to delete it when it is no longer needed.

We do not sell your personal information or use support messages for targeted advertising. We may disclose information where required by law or where necessary to protect the security and rights of our players and services.

Your choices and requests

  • Local saves: deleting the app removes its local data. Offloading may retain it. Apple device backups are managed separately.
  • Game Center: choose whether to connect, stop automatic score sharing in the app, and manage your Apple account and privacy settings through Apple.
  • Nearby sharing: choose whether to share, stop the connection, and manage local-network permission on your device. Copies a recipient already has are outside your local save.
  • Support information: email us to request access, correction, or deletion of correspondence we hold about you. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object to or restrict certain processing, receive a copy of your information, or contact a privacy regulator.

We may need enough information to verify a request before acting on it. We cannot retrieve or change a local save that you have not provided, or independently manage your Apple account. Apple handles App Store payment information; we do not receive your full payment card details.

Children do not need to provide contact information to play. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us personal information through support, contact us so we can help address or delete it.
